Washington DC Special Police Officer Found Murdered
WASHINGTON DC May 23 2022 An officer with the Metro Special Police Department (MSPD) was shot and killed early Sunday while on duty and in uniform, according to information from D.C. Police.
Officers from the Seventh District went to the 2500 block of Elvans Road SE at 12:23 a.m. to investigate the sound of gunshots, police said.
Special Police Officer Shawn Minor, 33, of Forestville, Maryland was dead upon arrival.
He was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
D.C. Fire and EMS also responded to the scene.
It was not immediately clear if police have a suspect in the case.
Special police are authorized by the District police to exercise some police powers on property that they’re contracted to protect.
No other details were given by investigators.
The block of Elvans Road where the shooting took place has been the site of violence several times in recent months. Police said in January they were looking for three men suspected of being involved in a shooting there. In late December, a 25-year-old man was killed.
The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
