Washington deputy sheriff gunned down
KITTITAS, Washington March 20 2019 — A Kittitas County Sheriff’s deputy was killed and a Kittitas police officer was wounded in a shooting Tuesday night.
Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in the Badeger Pocket area of Kittitas around 7:42 p.m. when the driver failed to stop, triggering a pursuit, according to KING-TV.
The suspect’s vehicle came to a stop at the end of Pierce Street when the driver exited and opened fire on the deputy and officer, who returned fire.
The deputy suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was transported to Kittitas Valley Hospital before being pronounced dead.
The wounded officer was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office has requested for the Ellensburg Police Department to conduct the investigation.
