Wetumpka’s police chief has passed away
WETUMPKA, AL May 18 2018
Wetumpka’s police chief has died, according to Mayor Jerry Willis.
Willis says he received a call after 11 p.m. Thursday that Police Chief Danny Billingsley had passed away. Billingsley had been diagnosed with cancer about a year ago.
“He was a Great chief, a great person, and he will be dearly missed in our community,” Willis said.
Billingsley had been the police chief for a little over three years. Billingsley was voted in as chief in 2014 after the former chief was suspended and then fired.
Before taking the reins in Wetumpka, Billingsley retired from the Montgomery Police Department holding the rank of Capt. He then went on to work at the Attorney General’s Office before retiring there too.
In his spare time, Billingsley led more than 50 mission trips to foreign countries.
