Wilmington NC community college employee arrested on felony child sex charges
WILMINGTON NC March 22 2020 — Authorities arrested an employee of the Cape Fear Community College earlier this month, charging him with four felony sex crimes against children, including a 12-year-old male victim.
Justin Louis Stermer, 28, was arrested on Friday, March 6, by detectives with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (NHCSO).
According to a spokesperson, during an investigation, evidence of Stermer’s alleged crimes against at least one victim was discovered. NHCSO could not discuss other aspects of the case, however, a spokesperson noted the crime was not committed as part of Stermer’s employment by CFCC.
Stermer is charged with two felony counts of First Degree Sex Offense with a Child (for offenses against victims under the age of 13) and two felony counts of Indecent Liberties with Children. He is currently being held in the New Hanover County detention facility on a secured $100,000 bond.
Stermer was hired by CFCC in 2015 as a part-time stage worker and was promoted to production manager in 2018. He is currently suspended. According to CFCC’s website, Stermer has also served as the advisor for CFCC’s Live Production Technologies Club.
