Wilmington police captain dies at home of heart attack
Wilmington DE March 5 2018 A 45-year-old Wilmington police captain died of heart attack in his home Saturday morning.
Stephen Misetic was a 21-year veteran of the department and the commander of the Drugs, Organized Crime and Vice Unit, a police spokeswoman said.
Police Chief Robert J. Tracy said he and his department are saddened and heartbroken by the sudden death.
“Stephen was a hardworking and accomplished law enforcement officer upon whom I and my fellow officers relied heavily to carry out our policing efforts in Wilmington. The work he performed for us and his overall record of dedicated service has made us a better Police Department and we will miss him immensely,” Tracy said.
Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki also relayed his sorrow and said it is a shock to lose the captain at such a young age and at a promising point in his career.
Captain Misetic was well respected and was an integral player in the Chief’s efforts to restructure the Department and change the way we police our streets,” Purzycki said.
Misetic is survived by his wife, Colleen, and his twin daughters, Stephanie and Cassie.
Funeral arrangements for Misetic will be announced as soon as they are finished, city officials said.
Flags are being flown at half-mast to honor Misetic and to celebrate his years of dedication to the city and the law enforcement community.
