Woman arrested after impersonating hospital staff, scaring employees

Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center issued a statement regarding the arrest of a woman impersonating hospital personnel Monday evening.
“We experienced an unusual incident last evening. Around 4:45 p.m., a person entered the Pavilion entrance and made their way into a non-patient care area of the hospital. While in this area, the person claimed to be a new employee of the hospital and retrieved a hospital gown and scrubs. Hospital staff was immediately suspicious of this behavior, called their supervisor, and contacted Memorial Hospital Security. Hospital security then called for the Jasper Police Department and escorted this person out of the facility. The person was subsequently taken into custody,” E. Kyle Bennett, Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center President, said in the statement released by the hospital.
“Staff and patient safety are a priority at Memorial Hospital. We sincerely thank the hospital staff and security staff that quickly followed appropriate policies and procedures. We have reviewed this incident and have a team of people reviewing other safety policies and procedures to continue to be proactive,” he continued.
During the incident, Peggy R. Stoll, 45, of Loogootee, was taken into custody after she allegedly entered restricted parts of the hospital.
Officers responding to the incident noted that Stoll refused to speak with officers nor identify herself. Stoll was taken into custody on a charge of criminal conversion for putting on the hospital clothing and failing to identify herself to officers.
At the police department, Stoll allegedly continued to resist officers and also damaged an air conditioning grate in the holding cell.
Stoll was also charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and refusal to aid an officer.
