Woman attempted to take child, assaulted security at Lancaster hospital
Lancaster PA Aug 24 2019
A combative woman tried to take a child and attacked a security officer at Lancaster General Hospital Thursday morning, according to police.
Around 10:43 a.m., Lancaster City police were called to the hospital, 555 N. Duke Street, because security was requesting assistance with a combative person.
At the hospital, a woman who was not identified by police, had been sequestered by security, police said.
The woman had picked up another woman’s 4-year-old child in the emergency room, hospital security told police. Once they realized she did not know the child, a security officer returned the girl to her mother.
Police said the girl and mother were not harmed.
When the security officer turned to speak with the woman, she began punching him in the chest, knocking his radio mic from his uniform, police said.
She was able to punch him several times before the officer could get her under control.
Police said they will not be identifying the woman until after an arrest warrant has been served. Assault charges were filed, but charges related to the woman picking up the child were not authorized by the Lancaster District Attorney’s Office.
