Woman says she can stab ‘rent-a-cops’ if they approach
Wichita Falls TX March 21 2021
A Wichita Falls woman is accused of brandishing a knife at security officers at United Regional Health Care System Tuesday morning, according to allegations in court documents.
Angela Nicole Ward, 35, was being held Tuesday in Wichita County Jail on $11,000 in bonds, according to online jail records.
Ward has been charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass in connection with an incident Feb. 27 and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with Tuesday’s incident, according to court documents.
She faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the assault charge and up to a $2,000 fine and 180 days in jail if convicted of criminal trespass.
A probable cause affidavit gave this account of the allegations against Ward:
A Wichita Falls police officer was dispatched about 6:46 a.m. Tuesday to 11th Street and Grace Street for a report of Ward causing a disturbance on hospital property.
Ward was barred from URHCS.
While the police officer was en route, a hospital security officer said Ward walked to a parking lot in the 1500 block of 10th Street behind Stripes on Holliday Street.
The police officer arrived and saw Ward sitting in the parking lot with her things around her.
He heard Ward screaming at the security officers as he got out of his vehicle.
She told the police officer she was there to check on her husband. She said security officers told her to leave, and she got upset.
Then she pulled a folding knife from her pocket and waved it around. She threatened the “rent-a- cops” while pointing toward URHCS.
She said they weren’t real police officers, and she could stab them if they approached her. Another officer took the knife from Ward so police could continue investigating.
The security officer who dealt with Ward said he approached her in the south alley of the 1500 block of 10th Street where she was on hospital property.
He said as she became irate as he approached her to tell her to leave because she is barred. He said she pulled out her knife, opened it and began threatening him.
He said she yelled, “If you come closer, I’m going to (expletive) you up.”
He believed she was going to cut or stab him with the knife, and feared for his life.
A records check turned up a criminal trespass warrant for Ward.
