Woman Who Reportedly Displayed Gun at Arlington Hospital Fatally Shot by Deputies
Arlington TX Feb 5 2023
A woman Arlington police say was displaying a gun at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital Saturday morning has died, according to officials.
Arlington police said they received a call from the hospital stating that at about 8:55 a.m., a white female suspect entered the Emergency Room lobby displaying a handgun and making suicidal comments.
After noticing the gun, the hospital’s on-duty Security Guard confronted the suspect and told her to leave. According to police, no shots were fired. The suspect fled before officers arrived and she was last seen traveling, on foot, westbound on Randol Mill Road.
Once investigators identified the woman, they began their search and forwarded the information to regional law enforcement departments. Shortly after noon, the Denton County Sheriff’s Office deputies located an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot of Greenbelt Corridor Park, according to the department. Deputies searched the trail and park where they found the woman, who pointed a weapon at them.
After she refused to comply with commands to drop the weapon, Denton County Sheriff’s Office officials said deputies fired their weapons, striking the woman. Emergency aid was provided but she did not survive, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The woman’s identity will not be released, according to Arlington PD.
No information was immediately available on the events leading up to the situation Saturday morning but APD confirms to NBC 5 that officers are still surrounding the hospital at this time to secure the area.
