Woman who threatened security guard, rammed officers with vehicle, fatally shot by police
Redding CA Dec 5 2020 Redding police say a woman who threatened a security guard during a disturbance was shot by a police officer Wednesday night is dead.
Redding police Sgt. Chris Smyrnos said officers responded to a call about a woman causing a disturbance at MOD Pizza about 6:30 p.m. The woman had threatened a security guard before police got there, Smyrnos said.
“The call was that she was threatening a security guard and cursing in the area,” Smyrnos said. “Our officers responded to the call and during the contact with the female it led to one of the officers discharging their firearm.
One of our officers was transported to the hospital with what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.”
Eyewitnesses said the woman was shot after she used her vehicle as a battering ram in the parking lot of Discovery Village.
The woman’s identity was not immediately known.
“The Shasta County Multi-Agency Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol was initiated with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office being the lead investigating agency. Additional information will be released by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office as it becomes available,” the Redding Police Department posted on its Facebook page.
