Women dodge cars after Victoria’s Secret theft in Natick
Natick MA Dec 2 2017 Two women dodged cars as they ran across Rte. 9 on Wednesday after authorities said they stole about $450 in merchandise from Victoria’s Secret in the Natick Mall.
Natick Police arrested Jasmine A. Brandao, 26, of Quincy, and Daqnya Johnson, 25, of Jamaica Plain, after they found them hiding behind an ATM at Sherwood Plaza at 8:48 p.m.
Police went to the mall after getting a report of a pair of shoplifters who were running from security guards, according to a police report filed in Natick District Court on Thursday.
As the officers were driving to the mall, they saw Brandao and Johnson running across Rte. 9 and jumping the jersey barrier. Officers reversed direction, and along with mall security, found the two women behind the ATM at Sherwood Plaza.
“Because Johnson and Brandao had fled the mall and hid behind the ATM, I suspected that they have been trying to hide stolen items,” police wrote in the report.
Police searched the area and found several pieces of clothing with Victoria Secrets’ tags still on them, police wrote in the report.
When questioned, Brandao gave police her sister’s name. She did not have an identification so police pulled up Brandao’s sister’s Facebook page and determined that she was lying. She later admitted her identity, police wrote in the report.
Police charged Brandao, of 145 Grandview Ave., and Johnson, of 3146 Washington St., with larceny of property worth more than $250 and conspiracy to commit a crime. Brandao was additionally charged with giving police a false name at booking.
Judge Matthew McGrath released Brandao and Johnson on $500 bail and ordered them to stay away from the Natick Mall. They are due back in court on Feb. 2 for a pretrial conference.
