2 More Security Officers Perish From COVID-19
Charlotte NC April 22 2020
The private security industry has lost two more of its officers to the COVID-19 virus making the loss total 63.
Longtime Public Safety Officer Wendell Quinn died from COVID19 on Sunday.
Standing at 7 feet 2 inches, Quinn was known as a gentle giant.
“His shirt was going to be bigger than yours, but he would take the shirt off of his back, and he would help you,” said Matthew Murray, chief of Public Safety at Hurley Medical Center. “It’s not just the public safety department here, but all of the nurses, the front desk staff, everyone here we are grieving as an organization.”
Quinn’s coworkers say he always had incredible patience with patients who were in crisis.
“He would talk to you until he was blue in the face if it meant he could avoid going other routes, especially if someone was in a mental health crisis.” said Murray.
His kind spirit extended beyond his job, though. To many, Quinn was a great friend.
“He would ask you how you were doing, and it wasn’t just something in passing,” said Murray. “He actually cared about how you were doing.”
Quinn worked for Hurley for 26 years.
He was only 51 years old.
And in California, security officer Kenneth Dubin 73 of San Diego died on Monday.
Dubin had been working as a security officer since he retired from the post office in 2012.
He has a wife, five children and nine grandchildren that he leaves behind.
63 known security officers have perished due to the COVID-19 virus.
