247 Security Officers Have Now Died From COVID-19
Charlotte NC December 18, 2020
Armando Gutierrez was in his third week of being a security officer when he succumbed to the Covid19 pandemic in Texas.
He worked at a convenience store, an apartment complex, and a grocery store during that time and had no signs of being ill. It’s devasting because he was our everything, and we don’t know what we’ll do now, his wife, Maria told a local reporter.
Two security officers in San Juan Puerto Rico also lost their lives in the early stages of the pandemic. Both were just recently added to the Puerto Rico Department of Health’s Covid19 death statistics.
As of Thursday morning, there have been at least 97,301 cases and 1,312 deaths in Puerto Rico since the beginning of the pandemic, according to a New York Times database.
Muhammad Asghar also lost his life while working as a security officer in New York City. No other information was available.
We have also been made aware of a Las Vegas security officer who passed away from the virus in early February.
Our office has of today, recorded 247 security officer deaths to the Coronavirus.
The true number of persons working in the security and private police field who have lost their lives to the Coronavirus may never be known.
Many health departments are still not recording a person’s work status or employment field and it is
difficult to say where or how a person contracted the virus.
In early 2020, thousands of law enforcement and private security officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic due to the requirements of their job. Many of these first responders died as a result of COVID-19.
