Three security officers died this week
Milton GA: A Milton security officer was hit and killed by a car while he was crossing the street outside of the neighborhood he protects.
Thomas Joe, 69, was found dead in the middle of New Providence Road in front of Atlanta National Golf Club by Milton police on Oct. 8, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Police Capt. Charles Barstow said that the driver stopped at the scene, but charges are possible depending on the results of toxicology reports.
“We also have to wait for toxicology reports and anything else that might be related to the investigation before we move forward,” Barstow said.
Joe was working his normal third shift in the guard shack outside the neighborhood when he saw a car pull into the gate across the street, the news station reported. He then went over to help them get in, and police said he was hit while walking back across the street.
San Diego CA: A security officer succumbed to his injuries after being attacked earlier in the week.
The security officer suffered numerous wounds to his head and face during the attack.
Authorities said that he was transported to an area hospital and remained in critical condition for several days.
A suspect in the attack has not been arrested.
Boston MA: A beloved security officer who worked for 14 years on the Harvard University campus passed away from unknow causes.
John Pomeroy was more than just a security officer, he had been become a friend, a mentor and a guardian to many of the students who had passed through the doors at Dunster facility.
Those who knew him say he was a jokester, a wise confidant, a storyteller, and most of all, a true friend to all who stepped into his office.
“He conveyed to all a spirit of helpfulness that went well beyond the routine responsibilities of a security guard. Like many of his counterparts across campus, he became part of the community sharing his wisdom with Dunster students and tutors and giving them encouragement in their studies and activities,” former Dunster Faculty Dean Roger B. Porter wrote in an emailed statement.
Pomeroy died at the age of 74. He leaves behind his wife, three children, and eight grandchildren. Before working at Harvard as a security guard, he served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1964 and owned several businesses.
