Corpus Christi International Airport officer dies after battle with COVID-19

A lieutenant with the Corpus Christi International Airport Police Department has died after contacting COVID-19.
Lt. Bobby Almager, 53, died over the weekend, several tribute posts from law enforcement agencies in Nueces County say.
Almager worked with the department for 24 years, according to airport officials.
He worked as a Master Aircraft Rescue Firefighter, EMT, Master Peace Officer and Instructor.
“As a first responder and a key member of the CCIA team, he dedicated his professional life to helping people and keeping things safe and secure at CCIA,” a statement from the airport reads. “Our condolences go out to his family and friends, who along with us, are mourning his loss today.”
COVID-19 has also affected other officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Senior Officer Chuck Williams is battling COVID-19 in an area hospital’s intensive care unit.
Several Facebook posts from friends said the longtime officer was placed on life support over the week. As of Monday, his condition was unknown.
A GoFundMe Page was created to help pay for Williams’ medical expenses with more than $14,000 raised.
As of Monday morning, there have been 54 COVID-19 related deaths reported in Nueces County.
