In a state with just under 600, 000 licensed security officers, a new light has been shown on the pandemic in the state of California.
According to the news site, The Guardian, when the Covid-19 pandemic closed down California’s offices, malls and event spaces last year, nearly 200,000 security officers stayed behind as the rest of the state sheltered in place.
As a result, just in one state, at least 90 security officers died of Covid-19 last year.
Private Officer International, a leading international security association said that they believe that the numbers were much higher as was the case in many other states.
Richard McCann, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer for the organization said despite his team’s best efforts to identify deaths of security officers from the Coronavirus, he knows that the number that they have been able to collect are not accurate. Between a lack of autopsies to determine the true causes of deaths, missing names, and employment details and in some cases, a complete refusal by city and state departments to release their statistical data, I know we missed a whole lot of security officer deaths across the nation.
