Private security now enforcing Vaccination Proof rules
Charlotte NC Sept 21, 2021
Private security officers have been cussed at, spat at, assaulted, and killed while trying to enforce
the Covid-19 safeguard rules since early 2020.
For the most part, officers have been assigned to duties like taking the temperatures of store customers and restaurant guests, enforcing the social distancing and the face mask policies, and ensuring the maximum capacity of various venues, and keeping the peace.
In many cases, it’s been a battle. A never-ending argument between those trying to enforce the rules and those who don’t want to follow the rules. For security, it’s been catch twenty-two. Do I enforce the rules and risk getting into a physical altercation or do I just soft-peddle it and back down when someone doesn’t want to listen or obey the rules?
But now, those duties have been increased further, to a more personal level and one that will put security officers face to face and toe to toe with even more non-compliant, disruptive, and disorderly combatants.
Amid fears over the delta coronavirus variant, and as many states see a new spike in infections, more restaurants and bars have been requiring customers to show proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19. Many customers have refused, become disruptive, and even assaulted staff.
This past week, a hostess at the popular Carmine’s restaurant in Manhattan’s Upper West Side was attacked by three customers from Texas when, according to police, the hostess asked them to show whether or not they were vaccinated.
The assault landed the hostess in the hospital and the three customers in jail.
Another customer at a swanky Los Angles club punched staff members and threatened the manager before LAPD arrived and hauled him off to jail.
In New York, the “Key to NYC Pass” vaccine mandate is in effect, restaurant staff is now required to ask customers 12-years-of-age and older for proof of vaccination if they want to dine in.
California businesses have also started asking unvaccinated customers to show proof of a negative coronavirus test before entering.
This time, the vaccine requirements are coming from the businesses themselves, not county health officer orders.
In other cities and states, there are also similar requirements. If you want to shop here, dine here, or do business here, you must show proof of vaccination.
To increase compliance and to keep the peace, more security officers have been hired to help with enforcing the Covid era policies and to eject those who don’t want to follow the program.
But drawing this type of line in the sand will certainly rile some folks up. People who think that they have a right to be anyplace that they want to be. Those who don’t care about the rules. And many, who are willing to use force to get their point across.
In 2020, five security officers were murdered, others were arrested for murdering Covid19 rule violators and there were more than 1800 incidents of security officers who were assaulted.
With this new security officer duty, there’s sure to be more assaults or even deaths of security
enforcers and more than likely, more security officers will be arrested for excessive force.
Not to mention, the business side of this equation.
Some insurance premiums will be increasing, there will be more liability and risks for security companies.
Overall, it’s going to cost everyone involved.
