81 Year Old Man Dies at Virginia Mall From Self-Inflicted Gunshot
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. May 4 2022
Authorities in Hanover County Virginia, just to the north of Richmond, say that a man was found shot dead outside of the mall on Monday.
Police said that he died from an apparent gunshot wound but the sheriff’s department reported that they are not looking for any suspects.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, May 2, deputies from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to Montpelier Shoppes in the 16600 block of Mountain Road after reports of a man lying on the ground unconscious.
When deputies arrived, they located the victim — now identified as 81-year-old John Slaw — lying down next to a vehicle and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Lifesaving measures were attempted, but were ultimately unsuccessful, resulting in Slaw being pronounced dead at the scene. A gun was located next to his body.
Authorities say that investigations into the incident are ongoing, but they are not seeking any suspects at this time because authorities believe that this was a suicide.
