Escambia County Family Dollar employee caught with $4,500 after reporting robbery
Escambia County FL May 17th, 2023 The Escambia County retail store employee who deputies say falsely reported a robbery Saturday morning was found with two cash deposits worth over $4,500, according to an arrest report.
WEAR News reported Saturday that 50-year-old Marcella House, of Pensacola, is charged with Making a False Report to Law Enforcement and Larceny.
WEAR News obtained House’s arrest report on Monday. It states she works at the Family Dollar at 8187 W Fairfield Drive.
Deputies stated House told the sheriff’s office she was robbed by someone impersonating law enforcement while she was on her way to deposit money from Family Dollar into the bank.
According to the report, House described the suspect who robbed her as a white male in his mid 40s, about 5’9″ with blonde hair and blue eyes.
The report states House gave deputies consent to search her vehicle and a backpack inside.
According to the report, when they searched the backpack, they found a zippered Regions Bank bag. Inside the bag was two sealed Family Dollar cash deposits — one for $1,754 and another for $2,787.
The report states House told deputies she was supposed to be delivering the cash deposits to the bank for her manager. House gave deputies a phone number to reach her manager in an effort to confirm this, but each time it went straight to voicemail. A records check then showed the number linked back to a previous number of House.
According to the report, deputies were eventually able to contact the Family Dollar manager. The manager told deputies the deposits House mentioned had already been delivered to the bank prior to Saturday.
“[The manager] received confirmation from the bank those deposits were received via the drop box,” deputies noted in the report. “[The manager] stated Family Dollar wished to pursue criminal charges against House.”
House was booked into Escambia County Jail Saturday morning before being released in the afternoon on $6,000 bond.
