Albuquerque Police say a security guard shot burglarizing house
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. May 13 2018
A movie theater security guard said he shot while on duty, but after an investigation police said he made the story up.
Officers said they got a call Friday at 6 a.m. that a Cinemark Movies 8 security guard was shot while on duty.
Officers said they got another call from a person who lives in an apartment complex who said a security guard tried to break into his apartment, so he shot him.
Police connected the two calls to the same man who was wounded at the movie theater.
“During the investigation, we found that he left his post. He went to Sedona Ridge Apartments and there was some type of relationship between him and the occupants inside the apartment,” APD spokesperson Simon Drobik said.
APD said the security guard went to visit either his girlfriend or ex-girlfriend’s apartment, but when he got there another man was in the home.
“The security jumped the fence, said he was gonna kill the occupants inside. Broke the sliding glass door. That male inside armed himself and shots were exchanged,” Drobik said.
The security guard was shot in the leg, but police said he drove back to work and told officers he was shot by a homeless person while working, trying to avoid being arrested.
“He’s looking at felony charges for aggravated battery, tampering with evidence and a felony charge of child abuse, because there was a child inside the residence as he shot into it,” Drobik said.
KOAT reached out to Movies 8 to ask if the security guard will be fired, but they refused to comment.
