Armed gang blow up two fuel station safes-hold security guard at gunpoint
South Africa Feb 13 2018 Less than an hour later, another fuel station in Mooinooi was hit and a man was shot during the robbery.
“According to workers at the Total fuel station at the Mountain Lake shopping centre in Broederstroom, seven men in a blue Volkswagen Polo, silver Mitsubishi bakkie and white BMW stopped at the fuel station shortly after midnight.
The men were armed and wore balaclavas and gloves. They held the security guard, petrol attendant and other staff members at gunpoint, forced them into the kitchen and told them to lie on the floor.
They took the security guard’s firearm and cellphone and demanded the safe keys. Staff members told them it was not in their possession. The robbers locked the staff in the kitchen and returned to the shop where they bombed the safe twice to get to the money,” said Romano van der Spuy, acting chairman of the Hartbeespoort Community Policing Forum.
“The gang took cash and cigarettes and forced a petrol attendant at gunpoint to fill up the Volkswagen Polo before they fled.”
Less than an hour later, a Total fuel station in Mooinooi was hit shortly before 01:00 . According to reports, armed robbers arrived at the fuel station in a white Toyota Condor and silver Toyota Hilux, also wearing balaclavas and gloves. They held the staff at gunpoint and bombed the safe. A man was shot during the incident and the Kormorant is still awaiting more details about this robbery.
