Atlanta Family Dollar security guard arrested for shooting man
Atlanta GA May 31 2018
An Atlanta security guard is under arrest today after being involved with a store customer that led to gunfire.
Police were called to the southeast Atlanta Family Dollar store late Tuesday night.
Officers were told that a man had been asked to leave the 1723 Lakewood Avenue business and then punched a security officer in the face.
The security guard in turn fired at the man striking him in the back.
After he was shot, the wounded man fled to a home around the corner in the 200 block Adair Avenue.
Atlanta police were called to the house at 9:45 p.m.
There, they found 19-year-old Casey Williams in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the back, police spokeswoman
Officer Lisa Bender told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The security guard at the Family Dollar, David Shockley, 47, told officers he shot at Williams after he punched him and then reached for something in his pocket.
“The initial investigation revealed information that contradicted parts of this story and Mr. Shockley was taken into custody,” Bender said.
Williams was charged with battery and Shockley was charged with aggravated assault.
The Family Dollar said that they had no comment.
