Canton Police: Man disrupts coronavirus screening at hospital
CANTON OH April 1 2020 A man was arrested Sunday morning after a disturbance at Aultman Hospital where hospital staff was screening people for the coronavirus.
Sahmi Amir Wydell Green, 32, listed in Stark County Jail records as homeless, was arrested at 9:20 a.m. Sunday at the hospital at 2600 Sixth St. SW on a felony charge of disrupting public services, the jail records show.
According to the records, Green has caused disruptions “on multiple occasions in the last several days.”
On Sunday, he “ignored COVID-19 screening protocol and attempted to bypass the screening area, causing great alarm and endangered not only the hospital staff, but other patients being screened as well,” the jail records show.
The records also show his efforts “caused a large disruption to the emergency room,” alarming hospital security staff.
Police say Green had to be restrained and removed from the hospital.
Lt. Dennis Garren, police spokesman, said Green refused to leave.
Police believe he knew what was going on at the hospital and he also refused to identify himself to hospital security staff, Garren said.
The police reports do not say how many patients or staff were in the area, but they indicate five or six security officers were trying to stop him.
Green remained behind bars, held in lieu of $50,000 bond pending a Canton Municipal Court hearing.
