New York City NY April 5 2020
Cops busted a pair of sneaker thieves who broke into a shuttered Brooklyn Foot Locker store and tried to make off with dozens of shoes and baseball caps.
The two thieves broke into the back of the athletic shoe store on Pitkin Ave. near Bristol St. in Brownsville early Saturday and were loading up a car with more than three dozen pairs of sneakers and nearly 40 baseball caps when cops arrived.
Police responding to an anonymous 911 call about two people in the back of the building missed the fleeing suspects by just a few minutes, Deputy Inspector Craig Edelman, the commanding officer of the 73rd Precinct said on Twitter.
The officers soon caught up with their quarry. “A description & direction of flight was given & the officers stopped the car, made an arrest and recovered the stolen items!” Edelman wrote.
The two crooks were taken into custody. Their names and charges were not immediately disclosed.
