Corrections officers’ union president charged with 2nd sex assault
TRENTON NJ Oct 20 2017 — Donald Ryland, the veteran Mercer County corrections officer arrested earlier this week, was charged Thursday with sexually assaulting a second woman.
Ryland, 44, is charged with kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault.
According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, on Oct. 12, Trenton police officers responded to call for “unknown trouble’ on Riverside Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman with a visible cut and swelling in her left eye.
She told police she entered Ryland’s vehicle and was driven to an unknown area.
They went onto the porch of an unknown residence and once there Ryland grabbed her by the throat, put her in a headlock, struck her head against the porch and punched her in the head before sexually assaulting her and fleeing the area, the office alleged.
Ryland briefly appeared in court Thursday afternoon, as he was scheduled to have a detention hearing. Family and friends filled the entire right side of the courtroom, as a show of support.
Assistant Mercer County Prosecutor Renee Robeson requested an adjournment, and a judge granted the request. Ryland is expected to have his detention hearing next week.
Ryland was previously accused of sexually assaulting and striking a woman on Oct. 6, in Cadwalader Park, in Trenton’s West Ward on Oct. 6.
