Flight attendant brought loaded gun to Orlando airport in carry-on bag
Orlando Fl November 17 2019 A flight attendant was arrested at Orlando International Airport Thursday after police say TSA agents discovered a loaded gun in his carry-on bag.
Joseph Brozyna, 28, of Ormond Beach, is facing a charge of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a firearm in a prohibited place, according to an arrest affidavit.
Orlando police officers said TSA agents saw the outline of a firearm in black carry-on bag as it passed through a checkpoint’s X-ray machine Nov. 14 around 5:45 p.m. When officers opened the bag, they found a .40 caliber black semi-automatic pistol with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine, the report said.
Brozyna, a Frontier Airlines flight attendant, admitted he was the owner of the bag, the affidavit said. Police said Brozyna told them he recently went on a road trip with his gun in the carry-on bag and forgot to remove it after returning.
“Brozyna understood the severity of the incident and was fully cooperative,” the arrest affidavit said.
A records search revealed Brozyna’s concealed carry permit had been suspended, police said.
Volusia County court records show Brozyna was charged with misdemeanor battery in March, but he pleaded not guilty and prosecutors dropped the case.
Brozyna was booked into the Orange County jail and was released on a $2,750 bond. Frontier Airlines spokesperson Kelsy Hustead said the flight attendant was suspended.
“We are investigating the matter and will take further actions, as appropriate,” Hustead said. “The safety and security of all passengers and crew members are uncompromising priorities at Frontier Airlines and we have a zero-tolerance policy for any violation of law or security protocols.”
TSA spokesperson Sari Koshetz said the agency has confiscated 81 guns at MCO in 2019 so far and seized 123 firearms in 2018.
Brozyna did not immediately return a request for comment.
