Gunmen shoot at off-duty officer working security, business owner
Houston TX Aug 25 2018 A man and woman are in custody after they allegedly shot at an off-duty police officer who was providing security for a business owner in Greenspoint, Houston police said.
The off-duty officer was approaching a bank with the business owner sometime before 11:45 p.m. when he noticed a suspicious vehicle following him, said Det. Ken Nealy of the Houston Police Department.
As he left the bank with the business owner, the vehicle began trailing him again. The off-duty officer circled behind the suspicious vehicle to try to get a license plate number, and one of the occupants of the other car reached out of the window and fired a gun several times at the officer’s vehicle, Nealy said.
As on-duty officers were getting closer, the people in the other vehicle again shot multiple rounds, Nealy said.
Police took the man and woman in the car into custody around 11:45 p.m., near Seminar and Loch Raven. No one was injured.
The man and woman, who are around 18 and 19, will be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Nealy said.
It’s unclear whether the couple intended to rob the business owner after he left the bank.
