Hospital security and police nab worker stealing PPE gear
Cooperstown NY April 12020
A hospital employee in Otsego County is accused of stealing a box of face masks and alcohol prep pads, then shipping them to another person.
The alleged theft happened at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies said Josie D. Wright, 33, a contracted hospital employee from Morris, is charged with a misdemeanor count of petit larceny.
Sheriff’s deputies said they were contacted by the hospital’s security personnel to help investigate suspected theft of personal protective equipment there.
The investigation also turned up allegations that other employees have taken personal protective equipment from the hospital and shipped it to other people, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies said Monday they are still investigating and it’s unclear whether those employees are profiting by these suspected actions.
Some local hospitals have experienced shortages of supplies amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Wright, after being charged with petit larceny, was ticketed to appear in Otsego Town Court.
