Newark Public Safety Says Goodbye to Criminal Intelligence Analyst Danny Francis
NEWARK, NJ April 28 2020— Friends, family and loved ones of Newark Police criminal intelligence analyst Danny Francis gathered for his final send-off in Roselle on Saturday, bidding farewell to the former Essex County investigator before his interment at Hollywood Memorial Park.
Francis became the second member of the Newark Department of Public Safety to die from COVID-19 on April 13. He leaves behind a wife, a college-aged daughter and a 6- year-old son.
“The Newark Police Division relied greatly upon the professionalism and technical expertise of Daniel ‘Danny’ Francis, who was meticulous in his work ethic in the Criminal Intelligence Unit,” Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. “Chief of Police Darnell Henry and I, along with each member of the Department of Public Safety, stand with Danny’s family in mourning his passing.”
Francis, 51, was a former East Orange police officer who later joined the staff of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office as an investigator. It was there he served 16 years in multiple units, including Narcotics, Special Victims and Homicide.
Francis retired from the Prosecutor’s Office in 2017 as a lieutenant and later joined the Newark Police Division on the Major Crimes Division as an intelligence analyst. His work there collecting and analyzing data assisted Newark police officers in crime preventing, making arrests and gathering essential evidence for prosecution.
