NYC airport security guard diagnosed with coronavirus fears her daughters have illness too
New York City NY March 30 2020
A LaGuardia Airport security guard and single mother of two who is bedridden with coronavirus now fears her two daughters may have caught the illness from her.
Haidi Torrico, 43, started getting headaches and feeling pain in her lungs last Monday while at work supervising an employees-only entrance inside Terminal D, she told the Daily News this week.
Her doctor prescribed some antibiotics, but warned her she probably had the virus and should quarantine herself.
“The doctor told me it was possible I had coronavirus but he wasn’t sure. He said my symptoms were similar to coronavirus,” Torrico said.
Torrico stayed home at her Corona, Queens, apartment for over a week while her symptoms worsened and her 21-year-old daughter started feeling sick.
The two finally went to Mount Sinai Queens in Astoria on Sunday, and doctors told Torrico she had COVID-19, but that it was too early to tell if her daughter had the virus.
Torrico’s health has been teetering back and forth since her diagnosis. When reached by phone Thursday, she said her fever and headaches were back. An X-ray also revealed damage to her lungs.
Her job at Terminal D is right near the food court area, where throngs of people cross to get to other terminals.
Torrico believes she may have caught the virus from someone passing through.
