Brooklyn NY June 1 2020
A school safety agent who had dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the children of Brooklyn is the latest member of the NYPD “family” to die in the coronavirus outbreak.
Doris Kirkland, a safety agent at the Brooklyn High School of the Arts, died Friday night from coronavirus complications, Commissioner Dermot Shea announced.
She is the 43rd member of the NYPD to succumb to the virus
Kirkland had battled the virus for a month and a half, the 52nd Precinct posted on Facebook.
“She worked at my school. Was the sweetest person. Always had great conversations with her,” Annie Pink, a special education teacher at the high school, replied.
As of Saturday night, 5,739 members of the department have tested positive for the virus, nearly all of whom have returned to work, officials said.
Franco Martello was a security officer working for the twenty-three years on Broadway and in
the Times Square area.
He became ill just before the theaters and shows were told to shut down and the city issued a Stay at Home order.
He leaves behind his five, five children and eleven grandchildren.
