Portland security guard’s pepper spray helps cop corral attacker
PORTLAND, Ore. June 9 2019 A woman who was seen walking in a Northeast Portland road with a large kitchen knife is in custody after a security guard used pepper spray on her during an altercation with a police officer Friday night.
Just after 8 p.m., officers were called to NE 33rd and Sandy about the woman. The woman, whose name has not yet been released, got rid of the knife, police said.
When she didn’t comply with police commands officials said “less lethal munitions” were used but weren’t effective. The woman attacked an officer who then used his Taser.
The security guard saw the attack and then used his pepper spray on her. She was then taken into custody.
The officer was treated at the scene for a minor, undisclosed injury.
The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Her charges will be announced when she’s booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
