Wheaton MD January 24th, 2024 A verbal and physical fight called “dangerous and unacceptable” by John F. Kennedy High School’s principal began in the stands of a basketball game with Richard Montgomery High School Jan. 18 and continued after the game ended.
Two security officials were slightly injured, and a Montgomery County police officer was pushed.
According to Kennedy Principal Vickie Adamson in a letter sent Sunday to her school community, “a serious incident” occurred at the game, which was held at Richard Montgomery High School.
“At the conclusion of the game, a fight occurred following a verbal and physical interaction between a Kennedy High School player and individuals in the stands. Other Kennedy High School players also became involved,” she wrote.
An investigation, which includes interviews with those at the game as well a review of videos, is ongoing.
Principal Adamson wrote once the investigation concludes, “discipline (for students or adults) will be sought.” Discipline for any involved student ranges from in-school restorative efforts to suspension or expulsion.
While strongly condemning the events, Adamson added, “I wish to commend everyone who worked to break up the fight and those who showed appropriate restraint while officials de-escalated the situation.”
