Security Company Owner, Retired Police Officer Dies From Covid19
VIRGINIA BEACH Va. July 14 2021— Jerry Cale spent his life protecting and serving others.
On the Fourth of July, the Air Force veteran, retired Virginia Beach police officer and business owner died after a hard battle with COVID at the age of 58, according to his family.
The 1981 Green Run High School graduate seemed destined for a career in law enforcement. He followed his father, the late Robert Cale, into the police force. His father served as a forensics officer for more than 30 years.
Jerry Cale’s distinguished 27-year career as a patrol officer, master police officer, field training officer, and detective for the special investigative division concluded in 2013, but he was far
That same year, he opened his private investigator firm, Beach Security and Investigations, in Virginia Beach. He relocated the business to its current location on Indian River Road in 2019.
In January, Cale expanded the business to Statesville and Charlotte in North Carolina, said Kandace Tyler, an investigator with the firm. He planned to open a location in South Carolina next year.
Tyler, who worked alongside Jerry Cale for the past few years, is still reeling from the sudden loss of her boss, good friend and mentor.
She said she has stepped into his shoes as manager of operations although she said they are amazingly big ones to fill.
“He was the best of the best,” Tyler said.
A helper who was eager to provide training or set up payment plans for those who needed it to get training, Cale’s business offers licensure training for private investigators, security guards, bodyguards and bail bondsmen through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services at its Beach Security Training Academy.
He leaves behind his mother, Lessie Cale; his life partner, Lynn Miller-Blank; children Cory, Kara, Dakota and Sophie; and grandson, Christian. Cory Cale will continue the business and his father’s legacy, Tyler said.
“I didn’t even believe good people still existed until I met Jerry,” she said. “He was like a giant teddy bear and this awesome-all-around guy.”
A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel at 1485 Kempsville Road in Virginia Beach. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
