Security guards battle with thugs in Star City brawl
Nechells England Jan 31 2018 Shocking footage has emerged showing security guards battling with youths after a violent fight broke out at one of Birmingham’s biggest entertainment centres.
Security guards are filmed trying to control a group of young men involved in a punch-up in Star City, in Nechells.
At one point, a staff member in a hi-vis jacket gets one of the youths in a headlock and drags him across the floor to one side before letting him go.
A spokesman for Star City described it as an “extremely rare and isolated” incident.
In the footage above a yellow triangular ‘wet floor’ sign is picked up and flung, punches and bags are thrown around in the short film.
Stunned visitors to the complex, off Watson Road, in Nechells, can be seen standing around watching and filming the violence unfolding around them.
The footage was shot on the stairs by the escalators on the central ground floor area.
It is not clear if the police were called. West Midlands Police were unable to trace the incident.
A representative from Star City called the incident ‘rare’ and ‘isolated’ and said they said they were looking to improve the venue with new attractions opening up in the future.
Shaun Rhodes from Star City, said: “As one of the region’s largest and most popular family destinations we take the comfort and safety of our guests very seriously.
“This was an extremely rare and isolated incident and we do not accept anti-social behaviour in any form.
“Over the coming months we look forward to further improving the offer at Star City with new attractions, new openings and a refreshed look and feel to the centre”
