Security guards injured in two separate Scarborough attacks
Scarborough AU Aug 4 2020 Two security guards have been injured in separate weekend attacks at a popular Scarborough nightspot.
Police said both incidents happened after each accused was refused entry to the Lookout Bar Bowling Bites at Scarborough Beach.
An 18-year-old Tapping man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm for allegedly punching a security officer to the face just before 11pm on Friday.
The man is accused of attacking the officer after he was ejected from the pub because of intoxication, breaking the victim’s nose.
A second worker detained the suspect until police arrived.
Another security guard was allegedly attacked on Sunday night about 11pm, when he refused entry to the 29-year-old accused, from Dianella.
Senior Sergeant Craig Wanstall said the man kicked the victim to his stomach and both men were involved in a “scuffle” on the ground.
“The suspect punched the victim three to four times to the face, causing a 2cm laceration underneath his eye,” he said.
Sgt Wanstall labelled the attacks “unacceptable” and warned they could have easily resulted in more serious injuries.
“These two nasty assaults occurred on security officers who are doing what we encourage our licensees to do,” he said.
“It concerns us that security guards are being assaulted doing their job.”
He said police patrolled and were “constantly monitoring the foreshore”, and urged people to comply with security officers’ directions.
The 18-year-old man will face court on August 14 and the older man will appear on August 26.
