Thieves Snatch & Run With $66,000 In Goods From Northbrook Court Louis Vuitton Store
Northbrook IL October 15 2021
Between six and eight thieves staged a rapid snatch and grab theft, making off with about $66,000 in merchandise, from the Louis Vuitton store in Northbrook Court Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The theft occurred at 6:45 p.m. Deputy Northbrook Police Chief Mike Metrick said thieves were in and out of the mall and the store, located within feet of the mall’s entrance, within about three minutes.
Once in the parking lot, the thieves quickly made their way to waiting cars and had fled the area when the first police units arrived.
Metrick said a 13-second video clip captured by a witness on a cell phone, shared with the Journal by Northbrook officials, showed the robbery as thieves fled.
However, he said the video was not helpful in identifying any of the suspects. As of Friday, Oct. 8, he said no suspects were in custody.
This was not the first of such quick robberies at Northbrook Court and this Louis Vuitton store in particular. A Northbrook resident said she was aware of three of four such robberies over the years. Metrick said several years ago, a vehicle drove through Northbrook Court’s glass entrance doors near the store, robbing it in a smash and grab.
Metrick said Northbrook has “a long positive relationship with mall management and mall security.” He confirmed there have been suggestions, from a security standpoint, to move the Louis Vuitton store further into the mall, but many other issues and parties are involved in such decisions.
