University of Dayton public safety officer dies from COVID19
DAYTON, Ohio Dec 15 2021 The University of Dayton (UD) announced Monday that a member of the campus community had died. Public Safety Officer Anthony (Tony) Cloyd died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021 after an illness. Officials outside the university said Cloyd passed away after a brief battle with COVID-19.
The university said Cloyd’s family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Rose Hill Funeral Home located at 2565 Princeton Rd in Hamilton.
Cloyd began working at UD in 2005 and spent 16 years in law enforcement. Flags on campus are flying at half staff in his honor. Cloyd is survived by his wife Deborah, his sons Corey-Levi and Duncan, his stepson Chris and two grandchildren.
University president Eric F. Spina said in a release to the university,
We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to Officer Cloyd’s family, friends, and his colleagues in the UD Department of Public Safety.
