Wood River man charged for allegedly taking photos of girls in Walmart
EDWARDSVILLE IL Oct 31 2017 — A Wood River man is facing charges of disorderly conduct after he was spotted taking pictures of underage females in the Wood River Walmart.
Darrell L. Vollmer, 51, of the 1100 block of East Lorena Avenue, was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly taking pictures of girls 10 and 16 in the Wood River store.
Details came to light after a security person at the Glen Carbon Walmart received a complaint of Vollmer taking pictures of a 10-year-old girl in the Glen Carbon Walmart.
Information about the cases is included in a sworn statement submitted by a Glen Carbon officer who was called to the Glen Carbon store, 400 Junction Drive, on Sept. 30. Details of the case became public Monday after police received a court order to search Vollmer’s cell phone.
The affidavit submitted by Glen Carbon police said the mother of the victim contacted the security person pointed out a suspect identified as Vollmer with a white cell phone in his shirt pocket, which he transferred to his back pocket.
When the officer asked Vollmer about the phone, Vollmer said he was not commenting without a lawyer.
The police officer asked him to turn over his cell phone, and while Vollmer was retrieving his cell phone, he allegedly said, “Taking pictures in a public place is not against the law.”
The officer asked Vollmer if he was taking pictures, and Vollmer allegedly said, “I am not saying one way or the other.” Vollmer declined permission to search the phone, but a judge approved an order for a search warrant.
Vollmer was charged on June 7 with taking pictures of a young female without her permission, causing a disturbance.
He was also accused of taking pictures in the Wood River Walmart on Aug. 16. Those cases are pending. Vollmer is not charged in the Glen Carbon case.
